Get boxes of official 'Star Wars' gear dropped at your door

Smuggler's Bounty is "the only official 'Star Wars' subscription box in the galaxy." The every-other-month subscription starts in November, just before "Force Awakens" hits.

Now you too can be a "Star Wars" smuggler. Funko

Funko, the bastion of bobble heads and vinyl figurines, has kicked off a new subscription service created in partnership with StarWars.com.

Called "Smuggler's Bounty," the program is billed as the "only official 'Star Wars' subscription box in the galaxy."

Our galaxywide search (yes, we Googled) supports that claim. For example, box-purveyor Boxychan offers a "Star Wars" subscription box, but it can't claim the contents are "official" like Funko can because the latter has a licensing agreement with "Star Wars." In addition, while other boxes might contain off-the-shelf "Star Wars" merch, Funko promises "100 percent exclusive collectibles, apparel and accessories from the 'Star Wars' universe." That word "exclusive" get collectors buzzing like a brand new lightsaber.

Subscription to the themed boxes costs $25 (about £16, AU$35) every other month. For that price, Funko promises $50 worth of goodies delivered six times per year.

"Each box will focus on a different part of the 'Star Wars' universe and include memorabilia exclusive to the program," Everett, Wash.-based Funko said Thursday in a blog post.

For the inaugural box, which ships in November, Funko will focus on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which opens in the US on December 18. While the contents of thebox are as elusive as the Force, the company did say the box will contain two "exclusive" (there's that word again) Pop vinyl bobble heads. Pop refers to the company's pop-culture line of figurines such as those from "Game of Thrones," "Harry Potter" and Marvel.

The outside of the first box (seen above) features baddie Kylo Ren done up in "Pop" style, which may (or may not) hint at the contents.

Subscriptions are available in two forms, based on how you pay. The Pirate membership bills you $25 every other month. If you choose to pay all at once -- a total of $150 (about £97, AU$212) -- you'll be in the Boss plan and get the boxes plus a gift on the anniversary of your subscription. International delivery is available.
