Ready for a router upgrade? If you've been experiencing slow or inconsistent connectivity across your home network, you might just be.

Indeed, if your router is more than a few years old, a new one is likely to deliver considerable benefits in terms of speed, range, security and more.

The Asus RT-AC87U, the CNET Smart Home's router of choice.

Now for the bad news: Most high-end routers cost at least $200. But not today. Newegg has the refurbished Asus RT-AC87R Dual-band Wireless Gigabit Router for $139 shipped. That's after applying coupon code EMCKKAS22 at checkout. It normally runs $179, and new models sell for at least $229.

Granted, that's still on the expensive side for a router, but this one has lots of useful features and killer performance. CNET's Dong Ngo said this in his review : "In my testing, the RT-AC87U delivered the fastest Wi-Fi speed I've seen and exhibited the longest effective range, living up to its potential as the first 4x4 802.11ac router. On top of that, it also made a good NAS server when hosting an external hard drive."

Ah, but that's a review of the RT-AC87U, and this is RT-AC87R. What's the difference?

No difference. You can buy one SKU, or version, in stores and the other one online.

Anyway, you should definitely read the full review so you know what to expect. I can't offer much guidance because routers aren't really in my wheelhouse. I will say that a few Newegg customers experienced reliability issues, but if you check the reviews you'll see that Asus reps always stepped in to make it right. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.

Bonus deal: When it comes to monitors, is there such a thing as too big? Ha, no, don't be silly. Adorama has the LG 27MP57HT-P 27-inch LED monitor for $149.99. That's after redeeming a $50 mail-in rebate. This IPS panel features split-screen software, a Reader Mode to help combat eye fatigue and dual HDMI inputs. That's a really solid price on a monitor of this size.

Bonus deal 2: Admit it: There are times when you wish you had longer arms. That's what selfie sticks are for! Like this one: Aukey is offering its "="" for="" $4.99"="">"self-portrait monopod" for $4.99 when you apply coupon code NIAQ6Y39 at checkout. Regular price: $10.99. Shipping is free for Amazon Prime subscribers. It features a Bluetooth shutter release, a wrist strap and an 18-month warranty. I'm a fan of the increasingly impressive Aukey products, and for five bucks out the door? I'll smile and say "cheese!"
