Get a Brother multifunction printer for $49.99

The MFC-J430W is a top-rated all-in-one that prints, scans, copies, and faxes. And for a limited time, it's half off.

Let's be real: paper isn't going anywhere. Just yesterday I needed to print my tickets to the local airshow. And last week I had to scan some signed forms to send to corporate.

In other words, every home and home office needs a good multifunction printer. And, preferably, an inexpensive one.

For a limited time, and while supplies last, OfficeMax has the Brother MFC-J430W multifunction printer for $49.99 shipped (plus sales tax in most states).

Actually, to score free shipping, you need to spend at least $50 -- so you're a penny short. Might I suggest this set of mini binder clips for 39 cents? Or 100 white push pins for $1.19? Whatever it takes to tip that scale.

The highly compact MFC-J430W can print, scan, copy, and fax. It sports a 1.9-inch color LCD, a four-cartridge ink system, and a 20-page auto document feeder.

Best of all, it has Wi-Fi, meaning you can print wirelessly from not just your PCs, but also your mobile devices. It supports AirPrint, Brother's iPrint&Scan app, Google Cloud Print, and something called Cortado Workplace.

CNET hasn't reviewed this model, but PC Magazine awarded it four, er, dots out of five and an Editors' Choice. What's more, 18 OfficeMax customers collectively rated it 4.6 stars out of 5.

I have an older (but similar) Brother all-in-one, and it's been a workhorse for years. Plus, it can run on cheap third-party ink. For 50 bucks, this is an awesome -- and awesomely affordable -- way to equip a home or home office for the inevitability of paper.

Bonus deal: Today only, and while supplies last, MidnightBox has the recertified 6th-gen iPod Nano 8GB in pink for $81.95, plus $3.99 for shipping. They sell new for $129.99. The only catch is the 30-day warranty. Even so, that's one of the lowest prices I've seen on this exercise-friendly iPod (which features FM radio, a pedometer, and a built-in clip.
