Get a $5 Amazon Instant Video credit when you register a compatible device

This is an update of a deal I posted a couple months ago.

Lately I've become a big fan of Amazon Instant Video, which makes video rentals so much easier than, say, two trips to my local Redbox (one to get the movie, another to return it).

You pay extra for the privilege of on-demand rentals, but sometimes--like when it's 20 degrees outside--it's worth it.

And if you own a Roku box, Web-connected HDTV or Blu-ray player, or any other device that's compatible with Amazon Instant Video, here's your chance to score a free rental or two.

Specifically, you can get a $5 Amazon Instant Video credit when you link that player, TV, or box to the service. The entire process takes all of 2 minutes, and the credit is good for anything in the Amazon Instant Video store. That includes both movies and TV shows--rentals and purchases alike.

Here's the fine print from Amazon:

1. Register an eligible Amazon Instant Video-compatible device with Amazon Instant Video for the first time by March 31, 2012. Eligible devices for this promotion include Amazon Instant Video-compatible Vizio HDTVs and Blu-ray players, Samsung HDTVs, Panasonic HDTVs and Blu-ray players, and Roku streaming players.

2. Your credit in the amount of $5 will be automatically applied to your account after successful registration and will be applied to your purchase or rental of eligible movies or TV shows. This credit will expire on April 30, 2012.

I linked up my shiny new (and singularly awesome) Roku LT, and blew $4 of my credit on "Moneyball." (Verdict: way better than you'd think a movie about baseball financing and statistics could be.) I'll probably put the remaining buck toward "Midnight in Paris," which I've been wanting to see.
