Happiness is a big TV. Oh, I mean, happiness is friends, family, food on the table, a roof over your head, good books, good music, and, of course, pizza.

Also, a big TV.

Especially one that doesn't destroy your budget. Great example: Wal-Mart has the Element ELDFW464 46-inch LCD HDTV for $399.98 shipped (plus sales tax). That's one of the best prices I've seen on a 46-inch TV.

Now, I'm sure a few hotheads will point out that the reason this TV is so cheap is that it has a 60Hz refresh rate, and "everybody knows 120Hz is the standard."

True, you do find 120Hz and even 240Hz in pricier sets, but how important is that? Depends on your eyes, your expectations, and how well the TV handles judder. I will say this: I have two older HDTVs, both with 60Hz refresh rates, and I've never noticed a trace of motion blur.

And because this is coming from Wal-Mart, you can always return it to a store (thereby avoiding shipping charges) if you're not happy. OK?

The Element delivers 1080p resolution (natch) and comes with three HDMI inputs. I have to assume there are others as well, but, curiously, the specs don't list them. Also, I couldn't find this particular SKU on Element's Web site, though it's not unusual for manufacturers to create unique models for specific stores (which Element appears to have done here for Wal-Mart).

Ultimately, it's always a good bet to look to the user reviews, and there are seven here--all of them five stars. That's not a huge number, but the consensus is pretty telling: this $529 TV is a great bargain at $399.

I don't know how long Wal-Mart will be offering this price or how much stock they have, but I do know this: hot TV deals sell out quick.

Bonus deal: Today only, and while supplies last, 1SaleADay has the HTC EVO View 4G 7-inch Android tablet for $229.99, plus $5 for shipping. It's new, not refurbished, and offers some impressive specs: a 1.5GHz processor, 32GB of storage, dual cameras, Bluetooth, GPS, and optional 3G/4G service courtesy of Sprint. Definitely one of the most feature-packed 7-inch tablets I've seen for the price.
