Come this weekend, Webmasters will be able to build real-time, full-motion, full-screen, color animation files into their Web pages using a beta version of Geo Interactive Media Group's Emblaze Creator software.

Emblaze transmits animation comparable to a television cartoon at a rate of 12 to 24 frames per second in 256 colors over standard 14.4-kbps modem. The company's proprietary compression technology lets developers pack 30-minute cartoon episodes in no more than 3MB to 4MB of disk space, according to Geo officials.

Users will be able to view Emblaze animation files by downloading an Emblaze plug-in for Netscape Navigator 2.0 or Microsoft's Internet Explorer 2.0 from Geo's site. The plug-in is available for the Power Mac and Windows 3.1 platforms; the company is working on Windows 95 and Unix versions but has not set a delivery date.
