Gateway's new LED monitors claim earth-shattering contrast ratios

Gateway announces new LED monitors.

The FHD2303L has a unique, off-center foot stand and apparently the largest contrast ratio ever seen. Gateway

Slim and LED has been the new black for quite some time now in the monitor market, so it comes as little surprise that Gateway is entering that particular subset of the market in a big way.

Today, Gateway announced three new LED-based monitors in three models: the 21.5-inch Gateway FHX2152L, the 24-inch Gateway FHX2402L, and the 23-inch Gateway FHD2303L.

According to Gateway, the new monitors will each have a 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio (meh) and, in an earth-shattering turn of events, each will also have a native resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels!! Hmmm, I may have gotten my reaction to each of those specs mixed up. Maybe.

Seriously, I'll be sure to confirm that 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio as soon as we--OK, let's just be clear: that contrast ratio is not happening. We'll see how close they can get, though.

The FHX and FHD are specced with a 2ms and 5ms response time, respectively, with both models delivering 250 candelas per square meter brightness, (yeah, I'll eat my DVI cable if that 12,000,000:1 contrast ratio happens).

The FHX series has that slim, LED look that most slim, LED monitors have. Gateway

Connections include VGA and DVI for all, but only the FHD2303L and the 24-inch FHX2402L get HMDI.

Each monitor also comes in "highly recyclable packaging materials, with all major plastic components properly labeled with the composition code and recycling symbols," according to Gateway.

All three Gateway displays will be available in October for an MSRP of $249.99 for the Gateway FHD2303L, $249.99 for the Gateway FHX2402L, and $189.99 for the Gateway FHX2152L.

Look for a review of at least one model fairly soon.

In the meantime, go to the monitor hub. Live it; love it.
