Gateway updates desktop line with new all-in-ones

Gateway revamps its desktops for the holiday shopping season, including a new all-in-one design

We've already seen holiday shopping season updates from Dell and HP; now Gateway joins the fray with a new all-in-one design. Gateway says that all of its major product desktop product lines have received specification updates, but the new 21.5-inch Gateway One ZX4951 and the 23-inch ZX6951 are the only models to receive chassis makeovers from the previous product generation.

Gateway's new One ZX6951 features a redesigned chassis, a 23-inch screen, and a Blu-ray drive.

The two new models will share the same rounded, friendly-looking chassis, and the design looks a bit more unified than the previous black plastic model that features two incongruous clear plastic feet underneath the display. The 21.5-inch and 23-inch systems will sell for $899 and $999, respectively, and each will feature 1,920x1,080 displays, Blu-ray drives, and either an Intel Pentium or Core i3 CPU.

Those specs are more or less in line with what we've seen elsewhere in that price range, although we're a bit surprised to see the 21.5-inch model start at $899. Dell's new AMD-based 23-inch all-in-one, for example, will be starting at $799. Gateway and its parent company, Acer, have also both pioneered sub-$1,000 23-inch all-in-ones, so sticking with 21.5 inches for $899 feels like a bit of a regression. Gateway also makes no mention of an HDMI input on the product specs page, which is a feature we've come to value for its ability to let you use your all-in-one as a home entertainment hub.

Still, we like the addition of Blu-ray at $899. Both systems feature touch screens and accompanying software as well. You'll find them listed on Gateway's Web site now, and they should start appearing at retail shortly, if they haven't already.
