Gamescom 2015 is happening, so we discuss Microsoft's event (Tomorrow Daily 220)

Khail and Ashley break down Microsoft's press event at Gamescom in Germany, explain why an artist turned digital billboards into art for commuters and introduce you to "Emily," an android made for natural human conversation.

We can't believe it's already August, and that means it's time for one of our favorite gaming conventions. Gamescom kicked off overseas in Germany this week, so we're diving into Microsoft's press event and showing you some of the most interesting games and announcements coming from the Xbox team. If you're wondering why we aren't also talking about Sony, it's because they've largely opted out of this year's conference. This is totally fine by us, because our PS4s are doing just fine.

There's an artist in Massachusetts who decided to help out commuters on two major highways last month by taking out billboard space and replacing all the obnoxious ads with "un-vertisements." The images were a rotating series of nature images that blended the billboard in with its natural surroundings, and artist Brian Kane says he hoped the installation gave drivers a chance for some introspection while commuting.

Meanwhile, in Japan, engineers showed off their newest android. Her name is Emily, and she was designed for natural human communication via vocal quirks and body language. She blinks, tilts her head and raises her eyebrows to convey a more humanlike style of conversation. We don't think we're fooled quite yet, but she's remarkable nonetheless.
