Following a tweet from a reader, Optus confirmed that the update is available. Users keen to update their phones can access the firmware using the Samsung Kies software suite.

Users are urged to back up data before attempting the update, as there is a risk of it wiping data including contacts and multimedia.

There's still no official release from Samsung or information from Vodafone and Telstra about whether the update is available for the versions of these handsets specific to those carriers.

If you have a Telstra or VHA Galaxy S and have a moment, run Kies and let us know if it finds an update for you.
