FTC delays Rambus ruling

Federal Trade Commission Administrative Law Judge Stephen McGuire granted himself a two-month extension in the deadline for giving an initial decision in the case against Rambus. The FTC alleges that the memory chip designer deceived the industry by not disclosing its plans to a standards body.

The "extraordinary circumstances" justifying the delay included the tasks of reviewing 443 pages of post-trial briefs, 4,879 fact findings, 11,806 pages of trial transcript and 2,200 admitted exhibits during the trial, according to American Technology Research analyst Erach Desai. The decision was due Dec. 18 and is now slated for February.
