The ad-supported app offers an assortment of sci-fi and horror movies and TV shows, including Stargate SG1, as a live stream.

Are you willing to sit through ads to watch sci-fi?

If so, head over to your Apple TV or Roku and grab the new Comet TV app. It's free, and you don't have to have a cable subscription to get full access.

Comet TV's roster includes shows like "Mystery Science Theater 3000," "Stargate: SG1" and "Poltergeist: The Legacy," and movies like "Gattaca," "The Amityville Horror" and "Bubba Ho-Tep."

The catch? The shows are available only as a live stream, not on-demand. That means they're basically just like live TV, and you'll have to watch commercials.

Comedy TV's stream is also available on its website and as a TV channel in more than 100 broadcast markets. The new Roku and Apple TV apps offer a schedule in addition to the live stream.

In my quick hands-on they behaved as expected from a live stream, with no ability to pause or otherwise control playback. When the ad came on it was much louder than the program. But hey, it's free!
