Frankenberg resurfaces

Software developer Caere names the former Novell president and chief executive officer to its board of directors.

Caere (CAER) announced today that it has appointed former Novell chief Robert J. Frankenberg to its board of directors.

The appointment is effective immediately, the company said.

Frankenberg, 49, served as chairman and chief executive officer of the giant software maker until he was ousted earlier this year. Prior to joining Novell in 1994, Frankenberg worked at Hewlett-Packard for 25 years in a series of posts including vice president and general manager of the company's Personal Information Products Group. He also sits on the board of America Online.

Los Gatos, California-based Caere develops OCR technology for converting printed and faxed documents into online text as well as producing desktop-form processing and document-management products for the U.S. and European marketplaces, the company said.
