Why You Can Trust CNET Four great action-game deals for PC
If you like to run and gun, run and punch, run and jump, or walk and stealthily sneak up on people from behind, you can score a great game for just a few bucks.
So many great games, so little time. Actually, I don't mind carving out the time (who needs sleep?)--it's dropping $40-50 on a single game that pains me.
Fortunately, as I've mentioned many times before, if you don't mind being patient, game prices can and will drop--sometimes steeply. Today, I've rounded up four top-rated games (for Windows) that are all fairly recent, and all heavily discounted. (Note that all prices are subject to change and were accurate when I wrote this post.) Take a look:
Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition for $6.42. GameSpot gave this "historical action adventure" a score of 8.5 and called it "a beautiful, exciting experience that will stay with you long after you finish it."
Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition for $10.18. This one earned a 9.0 and an Editors Choice from GameSpot, and with good reason: It's one of the best third-person action games ever. (That's my opinion, by the way.)
Far Cry 2 for $8.98. I'll admit I never much cared for the Far Cry series myself (which is odd given that I tend to love first-person shooters), but GameSpot gave it an 8.5 and said that the action "squeezes every last drop of potential out of the unique African setting."
Mirror's Edge for $4.99. Imagine the movie "Run Lola Run" turned into an adrenaline-fueled video game; that's Mirror's Edge in a nutshell. You run, you jump, you slide, all with perfectly timed precision. Huge points for originality. (The iPhone version is pretty sweet, too.)
I should mention that these are all download editions, not boxed copies. Even so, for less than the price of one new game, you can score four. And that's why I always skip new releases. (One exception: the upcoming Duke Nukem Forever. I cannot wait to play that game!)
Bonus deal: Today's Woot is one of the best TV deals I've seen to date: a new 42-inch Silo LCD TV for $399.99, plus $5 for shipping. I haven't found many reviews, but the specs look solid.
