Media giant Viacom has named former AOL Time Warner executive Richard Bressler as its new chief financial officer. Bressler left AOL Time Warner last week for unstated reasons.
Up to his departure, Bressler served as head of AOL Time Warner's investment arm. Before that, he was head of Time Warner Digital Media, the company's attempt to create an overarching Web strategy. But after America Online announced it would acquire Time Warner, the plan to develop its own Internet strategy became obsolete. Bressler was one of the main negotiators of the AOL-Time Warner deal.
In his new role, Bressler will manage corporate strategic and financial functions. He will report to Mel Karmazin, president and chief operating officer of Viacom.
