We're impressed with Flippaper, a custom-built pinball machine that allows each user to create their very own custom game using simple markers and a sheet of paper. Not your mother's pinball, that's for sure (though the device's design is very retro).

If you're a CERN researcher, you probably don't have too much downtime, but some of them had enough to create a portable, inexpensive cosmic ray detector called CosmicPi. Their goal? To get these into as many homes as possible, so they can crowdsource data about the invisible phenomenon on a massive scale.
