Obsidian has released the first environment screenshot from its runaway Kickstarter-hit Project Eternity.

We don't think we've ever watched a game's development with as much avidity as we do Project Eternity.

The Kickstarter-funded project, which still has a few days to go, has made (at time of writing) US$2,715,963 — its base goal was US$1,100,000. Created by alumni from such cult titles as Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale and Fallout, the game has generated massive amounts of interest from the gaming community — including us.

So far, Obsidian has been able to add extra playable races and companions, Mac and Linux support, a player house, new regions, new classes, extra game modes and crafting and enchanting professions.

Now, the first screenshot has emerged — and we're chomping at the bit. It's just so beautiful. Enlarge it to full size to see it in all its glory.

If you haven't pledged yet, there's still time. Head on over to the Project Eternity Kickstarter page to get in on the action.
