Final round of games funding awarded to Aussie devs

Screen Australia has announced one final round of funding before the Interactive Games Fund stimulus gets the axe in the new federal budget.

Seven local gaming projects have been awarded the last round of funding from Screen Australia's Interactive Games Fund, a stimulus package destined for the axe in the 2014 federal budget.

"We are proud to advise that every dollar of the fund's AU$10 million allocation has been spent directly on the Australian games industry," Screen Australia COO Fiona Cameron said. "The agency has absorbed all the administrative costs of running the fund to provide the maximum possible benefit to Australian developers."

The developers who are to receive the funds are a mix of newer and more established developers, with a strong variety of games up their sleeves.

  • Epiphany Games, based in Sydney, with its upcoming action-adventure Majestic Nights, for Mac, Windows, console and mobile
  • Kumobius in Melbourne (which you may recall from Duet) with the sequel to side-scrolling platformer Bean's Quest, Bean Dreams
  • Pub Games, also from Melbourne, with futuristic sports game Rebound
  • Bubble Gum Interactive's All Stars Tennis for mobile
  • Adelaide studio Six Foot Kid with touchscreen-based mobile strategy game Flick Fighters
  • Baffles' History of Puzzles from an unnamed developer, a collection of some of the world's best-known puzzles for mobile
  • See Through Studios' particle physics-based puzzle game Particulars.

These will be the last seven titles to be granted funding through the Interactive Games Fund, which has now closed after just one year and which has used just a third of its AU$30 million projection.
