FilmLoop, a photo-sharing upstart, raised $7 million in a series B investment led by venture capitalists ComVentures. FilmLoop, which launched in November 2005, is a free desktop program that lets people drag and drop photos into a file, then view those pictures on the desktop, as they would view a film reel. When turned on, it continuously parades photos across the screen.

About 400,000 people have downloaded the software since November, according to the company. Toyota, eBay, Purina and others have signed on to use FilmLoop as a marketing tool. Under terms of the investment, Roland Van der Meer, a partner at ComVentures, will join the company's board of directors. FilmLoop plans to use the funds for marketing and technology development. Based in Palo Alto, Calif., the privately held company is also backed by early Apple Computer evangelist Guy Kawasaki and his venture capital firm Garage Technology Ventures.
