In the third quarter, Samsung Electronics will come out with a MMC micro card that holds 1GB of memory. MMC cards, the latest in a long line of flash card formats, measure 12 by 14 millimeters and are 1.1 millimeters thick. Smaller cards mean smaller cameras and phones. Adapters also exist so they can be slotted into existing, larger card slots.

The 1GB card will hold four flash memory chips and record at 7.12 MB per second, which Samsung claims is 3 and a half times faster than memory cards on the market today. In terms a person can understand, that means that the card can record 20 five megapixel shots in 11 seconds.
