Fake news and Daydreams: Girt by CNET podcast 94

There's a double-whammy of leaving reality behind this week, as we talk Facebook's fake news woes and Google's new VR headset.

Josh Miller/CNET

On this week's episode, the team talks about the real effects of fake news plaguing Google and Facebook. And when viral fake news has an effect on things like a presidential election, those effects can be very, very real.

Looking at things like Facebook's push to be a reputable news source, the role of satirical news and even trending algorithms, the Girt team breaks down the issue. Following comments from Facebook's head honcho Zuckerberg that the social media site will crack down on fake news, we ask the big question: Who's really responsible for dealing with fake news?

We also got the chance to go hands-on with the Daydream View this week, and Google's new entry-level VR experience is pretty stellar. The team talks you through VR bomb disposal and other highlights. With more than 30 apps at launch (and we tested all of them), it's probably the most accessible VR experience currently available -- if you can get your hands on a compatible phone.
