Facebook giftcards are on sale in shops this week. Tesco and Game will sell cards loaded with Facebook credits, currency which can be spent on extra content for games played in the social network such as FarmVille, Mafia Wars, Bejeweled Blitz and EA Sports FIFA Superstars.

The cards are available at branches of Tesco and Game this week. For some unfathomable reason, Tesco sells giftcards worth £10 and £20, and Game sell denominations of £5, £10 and £25.

Plenty of Facebook users would rather eat their own arms than play games in the social network -- and constant Happy Island updates are as good a reason as any to cull someone on National Unfriend Day -- but there are still 56 million people playing Facebook games every day. Some 53 per cent of Facebook users play games and 20 per cent have at some point paid for in-game extras.

In other Facebook app news, recently arrived technology emporium Best Buy has opened a new Facebook shop. Powered by the Wishpot app, the store lets you browse the Best Buy shelves and add products to a wish list, then buy them from the Best Buy website. It's all a bit of a faff if you're shopping for a specific item -- you might as well just go straight to an online store -- but it's handy for sharing your wish list with your friends in the run-up to Christmas. Just don't forget to check Amazon's Black Friday deals first.
