Executive shuffle at ONI

Optical equipment maker ONI Systems announced Wednesday that its chief financial officer, Chris Davis, left to take the CFO spot at McLeodUSA, an upstart telecom carrier, and will be replaced by the company's vice president of finance, Ken Burckhardt. The company also promoted Rusty Cumpston from executive vice president of engineering and operations to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Cumpston joined ONI in Sept. 1998 and has also worked at Alcatel, Nortel Networks and Bell Northern Research. Chris Davis moved to ONI in April 2000 from Gulfstream Aerospace where she worked as CFO starting in 1993. Davis spent 17 years at General Electric before Gulfstream where she worked in operational and financial management positions. ONI recently reported a second-quarter loss of 5 cents a share, excluding charges, on revenue of $68.2 million versus a net loss of 18 cents a share, on revenue of $9.5 million for the same quarter a year ago.
