Excite@Home names CEO for Work.com

Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM) on Monday named Don Hutchison chairman and CEO of Work.com, its pre-IPO joint venture with Dow Jones (NYSE: DJ).

The Work.com joint venture, which was announced last week, will create a business portal that will integrate Dow Jones content with Excite@Home's interactive tools. Hutchison had been senior vice president and general manager for Excite@Home's @Work unit.

Work.com is the latest attempt to grab a slice of the B2B pie. Work.com will target vertical markets, and compete with players such as VerticalNet (Nasdaq: VERT).

Excite@Home also said Monday that Mark O'Leary will take over Hutchison's position as senior vice president and general manager of @Work, the company's business-to-business division. O'Leary was most recently vice president of managed network services for AT&T (NYSE: T).

@Work provides commercial access, hosting and e-commerce services to enterprise, wholesale and content providers. The division leverages Excite@Home's carrier-class backbone for business customers and is a key part of its broadband strategy, along with the acquisition of iMALL, Inc.

Excite@Home and Dow Jones, which have equal stakes in Work.com, anticipate an IPO later this year.

Shares in Down Jones closed at 58 1/8 Friday. Excite@Home closed at 34, far below its 52-week high of 99.
