Equity Movers: Neon, Novell, NorthPoint, Intuit

New Era of Networks (NEON): The company that makes software to link incompatible computers said in a regulatory filing last week that it exchanged some of its software for equity in companies. This information worried investors that the company's software may not be selling as well as expected. Shares of Neon fell 88 cents, or about 9 percent, to $8.50.

Novell (NOVL): The software maker said it broke even for the fiscal fourth quarter, as revenue fell 21 percent on slowed sales. In the year-earlier period, the company earned 21 cents per share. Analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial expected the company to break even. Shares of Novell fell $1, or about 13 percent, to $6.44.

NorthPoint Communications (NPNT): The wholesaler of high-speed Internet connections reduced its third-quarter revenue to $24 million from $30 million because of delinquent payments from its Internet service provider customers. Shares of NorthPoint tumbled 25 cents, or about 8 percent, to $2.75.

Intuit (INTU): The maker of financial and business software reported a pro forma net loss of $21.4 million, or 10 cents a share, compared to a loss of $25.3 million, or 13 cents, for the year-ago quarter. Analysts polled by First Call expected the company to lose 16 cents per share. Shares of Intuit fell $5.19, or almost 11 percent, to $43.

CacheFlow (CFLO): The networking company reported a fiscal second-quarter loss of $3.1 million, or 9 cents per share, excluding special charges, compared to a loss of $5.3 million, or 22 cents per share, in the year-earlier period. Analysts polled by First Call expected the company to lose 11 cents per share. Shares of CacheFlow fell $23.69, or almost 31 percent, to $53.13.

Focal Communications (FCOM): The broadband service provider said chief financial officer and company co-founder Joseph Beatty will resign. Shares of Focal Communications slid $2.50, or about 18 percent, to $10.94.
