Equant taps Cisco for network services
The Dutch-based data network provider plans to launch a private voice and data network using Internet-based technology from Cisco Systems.
Equant said its new integrated network will reach 50 countries using routers and voice-over-IP technology from network equipment maker Cisco.
The new network service will be formally released in February after completing a 21-city, 11-country demo, the Dutch-based data network provider said in a statement.
Two years ago, the company launched its first data network, called iVad, which enabled businesses to integrate voice and data using frame relay technology on a single network connection.
With its new managed and integrated data and voice-over-IP offering, Equant said businesses will be able to use one network connection to integrate quality voice with several of their IP data applications. This will also give customers the ability to voice-enable their intranets and extranets, the company said.
