Missed the first episode of the new series of "Peaky Blinders" or "The Fall"? Don't panic -- you now have a month to enjoy the latest shows from the BBC on iPlayer.

The catch-up window for you to watch recently broadcast BBC iPlayer and BBC iPlayer Radio shows is now extended from seven days to 30 days. That's handy if you missed the episode the first time round -- for example, 154,000 people searched iPlayer for recent hit "Happy Valley" after it had disappeared from the service.

Launched in 2007, iPlayer is the BBC's catch-up and on-demand service. You can enjoy TV and radio from the Beeb online, on your smartphone or tablet, games console and some smart TVs. You can stream each episode, or download to your mobile device to enjoy on the go.

Rival catch-up services ITVPlayer and Channel 4's 4OD already give you a month to watch programmes such as "Downton Abbey", "Cilla" and "Gogglebox". 4OD also permanently offers a range of classic shows such "The Comic Strip" and "Shameless".

New telly programmes from Auntie Beeb including "Human Universe" and "Detectorists" appear this autumn on iPlayer. The month-long catch-up window launches today for watching TV shows online, with the option to download programmes to be extended to a month in the next few weeks. Virgin Media TiVo, YouView and BT Vision boxes will switch to the 30-day window when they are upgraded to the new version of BBC iPlayer, which is in the process of being worked out.

There are some exceptions, among them "Crimewatch" and "Match of the Day". But current affairs programmes such as "Panorama", "Question Time", and "Click" will be available for a full year.

Radio highlights for autumn include "The Archers" and an audio adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens". As of today, national radio stations including Radio 1, 2 and 4, and BBC radio stations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are now available for a month. Regional radio stations and the World Service will follow suit in the next few weeks.

iPlayer was revamped early this year ready for a round of forthcoming upgrades, including special online-only channels and the option to buy BBC shows. And it's not just Auntie updating her online service: Channel 4 will next year relaunch 4OD as All 4.

So far this year, the biggest hits on iPlayer have been the latest series of "Sherlock" and "Top Gear", with more than 3.5 million views for their premiere episodes.
