EMC unveils kit for developers

Storage systems maker EMC is offering developers the opportunity to write applications that work its software. EMC on Wednesday announced a new software development kit dubbed "WideSky Developers Suite." The suite will allow developers to write software that connects to EMC's WideSky middleware. Middleware is software that provides a go-between for applications and hardware. WideSky was developed to allow EMC software to control storage hardware from a variety of other hardware makers. The WideSky development kit includes, for example, a WideSky Storage Resource Management interface. The interface will allow software developers to add storage management functions to their applications. The WideSky kit will be distributed via EMC's Developers Program. But it is likely part of a larger effort by EMC to put more emphasis on its storage software.
