Elon Musk defends decision to stay on Trump's economic forum
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO takes to Twitter to explain why he will continue his service to President Trump' economic advisory council, even as Uber's CEO backs out.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk turned to Twitter Thursday night to explain why he will continue to serve on President Donald Trump's economic advisory council and plans to attend a meeting for the group on Friday.
Musk said his job on the council is to advise the president on manufacturing matters and having a dialog with Trump is the best way to accomplish his goals of accelerating "the world's transition to sustainable energy and to help make humanity a multi-planet civilization." He also stated that in Friday's meeting, "I and others will express our objections to the recent executive order on immigration and offer suggestions for changes to the policy."
Musk's tweet followed Uber CEO Travis Kalanick's announcement that he's leaving the group. Kalanick had previously said on Twitter: "I'm going to use my position on Pres economic council to stand up for what's right." But he ultimately resigned over pressure related to Trump's executive order stopping people from seven countries from traveling to the U.S.
Business leaders from Blackstone, JPMorgan, GM and Disney are also part of the group and scheduled to attend Trump's meeting Friday. Planned discussion topics include tax and trade, infrastructure and regulatory relief, according to Reuters.
