Amazon's home networking brand Eero already introduced two new mesh routers this year, the Eero 6 Plus and the Eero Pro 6E. On Wednesday, at Amazon's fall hardware and services event, the brand is announcing new hardware yet again in the form of a new Eero PoE system that draws its power over an Ethernet connection.

Called the Eero PoE 6, the power-over-Ethernet system is expected to launch in the US and Canada through authorized professional installers this October. It'll open up to everyone at the start of next year, with an asking price of $300 for a three-piece setup.

Price: $300 for a three-piece bundle
Release date:  October for authorized installers, Q1 2023 for ISP partners

"PoE" stands for "power over internet," which is exactly where the new Eero WiFi 6 mesh router system gets it from: It draws power from an Ethernet connection rather than an outlet.

Details

A dual-band Wi-Fi 6 device offering top wireless speeds of up to 1.5Gbps and support for 160MHz channel width, the Eero PoE 6 looks just like existing Eero devices save for the fact that it ditches the traditional power cord. That eliminates the need to position it near a wired outlet, and makes it a lot easier to place each device wherever you want, provided you've got an Ethernet cable handy to power it.

It's an especially appealing pitch for anyone who's already keeping their Eero devices connected over Ethernet for a faster, wired backhaul, and it could also open the door to mounting your Eero devices in new places where they'll perform better, like on the ceiling or wall. To that end, Eero also plans to release a custom mount for devices that'll help make that a little easier, similar to other third-party mounts that are already available for Eero devices right now.
