EE 4G roaming now covers Germany, Italy, Canada and more
You can now jet off with superfast Internet on your phone in 14 new countries in Europe, the Middle East and North America.
If you want to post that beach selfie to Facebook faster than ever, EE now offers 4G roaming in 14 new destinations around the world.
Customers of UK network EE, formed by the merger of Orange and T-Mobile, can now enjoy faster Internet connection on their 4G LTE phone. 4G costs slightly more than a regular contract or pay as you go deal, and is only available in some parts of the country because it's still relatively new. EE is ahead of rival networks including O2, Vodafone and Three by offering 4G in more than 200 UK towns and cities, and is now offering fast data abroad when 4G customers jet off for holidays or work overseas.
If you're off for a Nordic knees-up you can now enjoy fast data in Norway. If you fancy somewhere a little warmer, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are now in on the 4G action too. And you can also get super-fast speed in Canada, but don't get too absorbed in your phone in case you run into a bear.
If you're jetting off to the continent you can enjoy superfast 4G in Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, and Switzerland.
South Korea is also included from tomorrow. These new countries join France and Spain, the first two regions to do a deal with EE back in March, taking the total number of countries with EE 4G roaming to sixteen.
If you have your holibobs booked in another country, there's a chance it may be covered by the time you don your straw hat and board the plane: EE says it has plans for "further popular travel destinations to follow in the coming months."
In order to roam abroad you need to buy a data bundle. Prices in the EU start from £3 per day for 50MB, up to £25 for a week's data up to a 500MB limit. How you feel about the limit is up to you, but at least the cap means you can't go overboard on data and unwittingly lumber yourself with a shock bill. 4G is one of the last roaming money-making schemes as the EU brings roaming charges to an end. Extra charges for calls, texts and data while abroad recently halved and are set to disappear entirely by 2015 as lawmakers look to make Europe one big happy telecoms family. 4G is still relatively new, however, so each operator is still striking deals with its international counterparts.
For our money the best roaming deal is Three's Feel at Home scheme, which takes your minutes, texts and data with you to assorted countries including the US at zero extra cost. Three does not have 4G overseas, however. Vodafone offers 4G roaming in countries including Italy, Spain and Portugal.
