eBay tests customer service chat feature

eBay has begun testing a new instant-messaging-based customer support feature. The feature, which eBay will test for the next eight weeks, enables people to chat with customer service representatives seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. PT. However, during the test, eBay is limiting the total number of people who can access the service each day to "a few thousand." eBay has not yet decided whether to make the service a permanent feature, the company said on its announcements board. eBay offers an extensive online help section, and its customer service representatives often post to various chat and message boards. But eBay does not generally give out customer service phone numbers, and some members have complained about not being able to find immediate help for specific problems.
