EA to take World Cup soccer to Xbox

The game maker will work with FIFA and Microsoft to launch an online mock tournament laced with drills and tricks.

Microsoft and Electronic Arts have joined forces with soccer body Federation Internationale de Football Association to run an online tournament before the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Dubbed the FIFA Interactive World Cup, the online competition will travel across the continents from October through December. The mock tournament, interlaced with soccer drills and tricks sessions, will be played on the Xbox Live online game service as well as on the regular Xbox, the official video game console of the 2006 World Cup.
