DivX video jogs forward

Company improves its digital technology, adds support for foreign languages, gains market acceptance.

DivXNetworks released a new version of its digital video technology Monday, making several improvements in quality and adding support for foreign languages.

The San Diego-based company, which competes with much larger rivals Microsoft, Apple Computer and RealNetworks, has made recent strides toward market acceptance. Some big-name DVD player manufacturers have built support for its technology into their machines. Last week, the company announced that Italian Net service provider Wind would create a video-on-demand service using the DivX format.
