Digital to ship SAP R/3 on servers

Digital Equipment (DEC) has rolled out a series of servers bundled with business application software from SAP.

The 64-bit AlphaServer systems include the hardware and system software to support the R/3 business applications currently available.

The release comes just days after SAP announced that it has teamed up with Compaq Computer and IBM to offer an all-in-one business application bundles.

"These new servers will make it much easier for users to install the R/3 system," said Digital's Don Bradley.

Until now, users had to buy Digital servers and SAP R/3 systems separately and then configure the two together on site, Bradley said.

Prices for the preconfigured Digital servers start at $37,000.
