I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.

PMA 2006 - CNET covers the show
Here's one right out of the foot-in-mouth department: At a pre-PMA press event the other night, I was walking by the Vivitar table when the jolly man behind it waved a compact camera at me and said "10 megapixels!" with an expectant look on his face. I didn't say anything, and I guess he didn't think I was suitably impressed, because he then elaborated, "It's the smallest 10-megapixel camera available!" I pointed out that few people need a 10-megapixel snapshot camera, to which he replied, "Yeah, but they don't know that."

Oops.

So if you were worried that companies were slacking off on the exploitation of consumer ignorance, you can rest easy now.
