The first look at Motorola's successor to the Moto 360 smartwatch may have accidentally leaked online. And, rather than coming from an anonymous tipster, the goods might have come directly from the top.

According to Chinese site MyDrivers.com, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing posted and has since deleted an image of various components of smartwatches from his account on popular social media site Weibo.

CNET reached out to Motorola for comment.

If we assume this is all true, the watch in the photo looks like it has the same circular face as the "flat tire" black bar across the bottom. Upon close inspection, a few of the bands feature what appear to be traditional lugs for connecting to the face. Also new, we see what look to be gold and dark grey bands alongside the current Moto 360 options.

Motorola recently opened up its Moto Maker customization tool to support the Android Wear-powered watch, which means that customers can choose from any combination of case finishes, band styles and watch faces.

Assuming these freshly leaked components are the real deal, we might surmise that the next-generation of Moto 360 expands upon the Moto Maker customization with these other options. Further, the next version could be a case of design evolution rather than revolution.

It's worth noting that the Moto 360 is only a few months old and that a successor could still be many months away. In other words, there's plenty of time for design changes to trickle down.
