Dell XPS M1210: Lilliputian powerhouse

Small laptops are weak and feeble, right? Wrong. The Dell XPS M1210 is tiny but can wipe the floor with many larger laptops

Remember the 20-inch XPS M2010 laps-top? Well this is its little brother -- the Dell XPS M1210. It's small, admittedly, but this 12-inch wonder packs a mean punch, as you probably guessed from the fact that it's part of the XPS range.

The folks at Dell sent us one this morning and though we've fondled one before, we were instantly reminded of why we like it. It's got a very plucky Intel Centrino Duo T2400 processor that runs at 1.83GHz, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 100GB hard drive and an Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 graphics card.

That's a better spec than you'll find in the majority of 15-inch laptops, and the XPS M1210 only weighs 2kg. It's a bit like that crazy dwarf guy from The Lord of The Rings -- it's small, but it kicks serious butt.

The laptop is much better-looking than hairy old Gimli though. It's got a cool black and silver lid, a silver inner section and a matching keyboard. Plus there's a rotating camera at the top of the screen, media control buttons on the lower front lip, and unusually for a laptop of this size, four USB ports. Normally the most you'll find is three.

We've already reviewed a slightly lower-spec version of the XPS M1210, which you can check out here. We like it. Go buy it. -RR
