Dell upgrades small-business server

Dell on Monday upgraded its PowerEdge 400SC server for small- and medium-size businesses. The server comes with a Pentium 4 running at 3.2GHz with an 800MHz system bus and up to 4GB of memory. Before the upgrade, these servers came with a 533MHz or 400MHz bus. The machine starts at $499, but can be bought for a limited time for $374 with rebates.

Like Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and others, Dell has been actively trying to court small- and medium-size businesses in the last two years. Historically, many of these companies bought computers from regional "white box" manufacturers.
