Dell will ship the OptiPlex GXpro 180 and OptiPlex GXpro 200, which both use Intel's Pentium Pro 180-MHz and 200-MHz processors, the new Intel 440FX Pentium Pro chipset, integrated networking from 3Com, pre-installed Windows NT Workstation 3.51, a color monitor, and a redesigned 100 percent recyclable chassis.
The new chassis is reinforced by a recyclable steel plate designed to include a lever-accessed card cage, a hinged power supply and single-screw access to the motherboard, making it one of the most advanced PC designs on the market, the company said.
The new models also come with an option for a dual Pentium Pro processor-design, an option intended to let customers choose between a "mainstream desktop and powerful workstation," Dell said. The line also includes options such as 8X CD-ROM drives.
The introductory price for an 180-MHz model is $2,899. A dual 200-MHz Pentium Pro system sells for $8,123. The price includes a coupon for a free upgrade to Windows NT Workstation 4.0, expected to be released this summer, the company said.
