Dell settles with Tulip

Dell Computer has settled a patent infringement lawsuit related to motherboards that was filed by Tulip Computer International.

Tulip's lawsuit, filed in 2000, alleged that Optiplex business desktops sold by Dell at one time violated one of Tulip's U.S. patents. Dell will pay a portion of a $49.5 million dollar settlement negotiated with Tulip, the Netherlands-based PC maker said in a recent regulatory filing in its home country. Dell's portion of the settlement amounted to less than $10 million, Tulip said in the filing. The other payees were not disclosed in the filing. Dell also licensed the patent in question but did not admit to violating it.
