Dell notebook comes loaded
Dell gives notebook aficionados just about everything they need in a notebook for well under $3,000, including a large high-quality screen, an MMX Pentium processor, and a fast CD-ROM drive.
Dell?s new Latitude LM M133ST model is priced at $2,699 and comes configured with a 133-MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 16MB of memory, a 1.6GB hard drive, a 12X CD-ROM drive, and a 12.1-inch active-matrix LCD screen.
The 133-MHz MMX chip from Intel is a recently released version of Intel?s MMX mobile Pentium processor. Previously, the MMX mobile Pentium was available in 150- and 166-MHz versions only.
Other features include a lithium-ion battery, Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition, and a one-year warranty.
Typically, notebooks in this price range don?t come with large 12.1-inch active-matrix screens--the highest-quality LCD on the market--MMX processors, and fast CD-ROM drives.
Storage capacity can also be increased to 4GB, Dell says. This upgrade is expected to ship later this month.
Also available immediately, the Dell Latitude XPi CD M133ST is priced at $3,199 for a system configured with a 133-MHz MMX Pentium processor and the same configuration as the LM M133ST.
The XPi models are priced higher since they are targeted for corporate buyers and include technology to make them easy to manage in a corporate environment. The XPi CD M133ST comes with, for example, the Dell Inspector. The Dell Inspector helps customers lower their product lifecycle costs by allowing them to manage their notebook PCs in complex, networked environments, the company said.
Dell also announced a $200 price reduction on the Dell Latitude XPi CD M166ST notebook, now priced at $3,599. At this price, it has a 166-MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology and a configuration similar to the XPi CD M133ST.
Dell says Latitude XPi CD customers can select hard drive capacities of up to 5GB, which delivers 60 percent more storage space than previously available on this product.
