Superheroes usually lead complicated double lives and have tragic origin stories, and Marvel's Jessica Jones is no different.
Jones gained her superpowers after she was exposed to an experimental radioactive material in a tragic car accident with her family. But she encounters even more misfortune when she crosses paths with a supervillain nicknamed Purple Man.
In this new trailer for the upcoming Netflix series "Jessica Jones", which debuts on November 20, we see the ex-superhero Jones (Krysten Ritter) piecing together a mystery. It's the wee hours of the morning and she's sticking surveillance photos to a wall at her detective agency, Alias Investigations, in Hell's Kitchen, New York.
What makes this trailer different than all previous footage is that we finally see Ritter's face and hear a rather ominous voiceover from her nemesis. The taunting Purple Man, aka Kilgrave, is played by none other than the Tenth Doctor from "Doctor Who," David Tennant.
"I know your secrets," Kilgrave says in the trailer. "I know about your friends. About your gifts. Jessica Jones, I know everything."
In the comics, Kilgrave used mind-control to manipulate Jones when she was still a costumed superhero. The havoc Kilgrave could wreak on Jones's life should make for an interesting plot.
Back in January, when, fans were thrilled with the idea of the former Time Lord playing a bad guy.
"I'm so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character," executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said on Marvel's news website. "He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He'll make Kilgrave a truly original villain."
Luckily for Jones, she'll be supported by her love interest Luke Cage, who's played by. also appears as her best friend Trish Walker and from "The Matrix" plays Harper, her no-nonsense ally.
