David Duchovny wants back in 'Twin Peaks' as cross-dressing agent
The '90s could be back with a vengeance as David Duchovny hopes to return to his quirky "Twin Peaks" role in addition to reviving "The X-Files."
Before David Duchonvy was FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder on the "The X-Files," he was DEA agent Dennis/Denise Bryson on David Lynch's cult classic TV show "Twin Peaks." While Duchovny already expressed his interest in reprising his role as Mulder, he also told the Los Angeles Times he would like to get back on the "Twin Peaks" crazy train. "I hope my character comes back, I think she does," he says.
Denise Bryson is a smart lady. Agent Dale Cooper describes Bryson as "one of the finest minds in the DEA." He remembers her from her days as "Dennis," but meets her anew when she arrives to investigate his involvement in a drug sting operation with missing goods.
The show never clearly states if Bryson is transgender or a crossdresser. Bryson explains that an undercover operation involved dressing as a transvestite. "I found that wearing women's clothes relaxed me," Bryson says. Agent Cooper is accepting of his friend's new appearance, despite having to be reminded to call her "Denise."
"Twin Peaks" creators Mark Frost and David Lynch are both signed on for a revival of the series, which originally lasted for just two seasons and a movie, "Fire Walk with Me." The new nine-episode series will air in 2016 on Showtime and takes place 25 years after the final episode.
Actor Kyle MacLachlan is officially onboard to reprise his lead role as Agent Cooper, but other casting announcements are still trickling in. David Duchovny's character would be a welcome addition to the revival.
