Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine are invading Middle-earth, and it's up to Frodo, Gandalf and the rest of the inhabitants of J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional world to save Middle-earth from destruction.

At least, that's the premise of this fan-made trailer from filmmaker Alex Luthor, which pits the realm of "Lord of the Rings" against the vast universe of "Star Wars." In the clip, we see Star Destroyers, AT-ATs and the dark lord Darth Vader fighting their way through Middle-earth as Gandalf, Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas and several other characters from the "Lord of the Rings" series try to defeat them.

Can the fellowship survive and defeat a seemingly much more powerful Empirical army?

Sadly, we'll never actually know the answer to that question -- no "Star Wars" vs. "Lord of the Rings" crossover will ever be made -- but we can at least see how such a battle might unfold in the short trailer above.

If you can't wait to see more intergalactic action, the next entrant in the "Star Wars" series -- "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" -- will land in theaters in the UK and Australia on December 17, followed by the US on December 18.
