Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed development on a new property has begun at From Software, and the studio has no intention of following Dark Souls 3 up with another sequel.

Speaking in an interview with Taiwanese publication GGN Gamer, as translated by NeoGAF, Miyazaki said there will be "several" DLCs (downloadable content packs) for Dark Souls 3, but these are likely to be the last crop of Souls content from the studio for the foreseeable future.

"There's absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ins," he said. "But I can't say for certain the possibility is zero percent. ...What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over. So rather than make another sequel, I think it's time we take a step to a new direction."

He added: "Development of a new IP has already begun."

Asked about a potential remake of Demon's Souls, the PlayStation 3-exclusive spiritual predecessor to Dark Souls, Miyazaki responded by affirming that his studio intends to move on.

"We want to try making new things," he responded.

However, Miyazaki also said that he may allow developers at his studio to make a new Souls game in the future.

"If a From Software developer come to me five years from now and [begged], 'Please let me make another Dark Souls,' then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project."

Miyazaki's desire to move away from Souls games casts some doubts on whether a sequel to From Software and Sony's Bloodborne, could be made. The PlayStation 4-exclusive was launched to critical acclaim and has performed well, making it an ideal candidate for a follow-up. Bloodborne was not discussed in the interview, however.

A sequel to mech combat game, Armored Core, on the other hand, was something Miyazaki said he personally wants to do, having previously been involved in the creation of three games in the series.

Prior to the release of Dark Souls 3, Miyazaki echoed similar sentiments. In an interview with GameSpot, he said he feels it'd wouldn't be the right to continue indefinitely creating Souls and Bloodborne games.

"I'm considering Dark Souls 3 to be the big closure on the series," he said. "From Software and myself together want to aggressively make new things in the future."

The first post-launch DLC pack for Dark Souls 3 will launch this fall. Previous leaks suggested things like new maps, bosses, enemies and additional weapon and armor sets will be added to the game through DLC.
