Networking gear maker D-Link announced Friday a new networking bridge based on 802.11g wireless technology. The bridge is designed to connect gaming consoles and Ethernet devices to a wireless network. The D-Link DWL-G810 Xtreme G Wireless Bridge will be available in mid-August for $134.99. The device will connect PlayStation 2, Xbox or GameCube consoles to the Internet for online gaming, according to D-Link. It also hooks up to consoles in a network for head-to-head gaming.
The device is part of an effort among gear makers to make Wi-Fi networks the de facto method for sending and receiving content over a network and for sharing resources connected to it. More and more manufacturers are trying to make it easier for consumers to connect common household products to a home network.
