Current jailbreak methods (for putting third-party apps on the iPhone, unlocking) failing after 1.1.1 update

Ben Wilson

It appears as though the current methods for jailbreaking iPhones (putting them into a state where files can be written easily to/from the devices) do not work with firmware/software revision 1.1.1. This makes it (currently) impossible to add third-party applications to the device via the method outlined in our guide, and to re-attempt unlock efforts -- as phones must be jailbroken for current software-based unlock methods to occur.

We tried several current solutions, including iNdependence and AppTapp (which doesn't let you select the 1.1.1 firmware yet), and they all failed to work properly. It appears that Apple has made some change to the way that iPhones enter recovery mode, negating the effectiveness of these tools.
