CTIA Wireless 2006: Viva Las mobile Vegas
Since we've already had 3GSM and CeBIT here in Europe, it's only fair that America gets some much-needed mobile tech attention with the CTIA Wireless 2006 event in the home of Elvis-themed nuptials
Las Vegas -- home of fake Elvises, drunken marriages and grown men crying over small pieces of plastic -- is now hosting the American equivalent of CeBIT for Internet and mobile technology. It's called CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association) Wireless 2006 and will host most of the world's media and mobile phone companies.
Our US colleagues Kent German and Bonnie Cha from CNET.com are out there right now and hotly anticipating the Motorola Q and the Nokia E series mobiles. They're also looking forward to some insight into how companies are integrating HSDPA (aka Super 3G) and Wi-Fi into phones.
So far we've seen new phones from Sony Ericsson and Motorola being launched at CTIA, but nothing that's blown our minds. Hopefully over the next two days we'll see something unusual come out of the woodwork. We'll certainly be keeping an eye on the Fashion in Motion showcase, "where models will display the latest wireless devices and accessories on the market today and futuristic fashions of tomorrow," according to the CTIA site.
Of course, many product launches in Las Vegas will be the US unveilings of stuff we saw at CeBIT, but there are signs that there might be some exciting developments across the pond. So we're keeping everything crossed for something special -- like an Apple phone. Well, we're allowed to dream, aren't we? -AL
