Cricket Wireless wants to get in on the Black Friday bonanza.

The provider of prepaid wireless service, a unit of AT&T, launched on Friday a limited $100 credit for customers who bring their phone number over from a rival carrier. The so-called Black Friday offer will be available over the next few weeks.

The promotion underscores the growing interest in and demand for prepaid wireless services, which are often more affordable and don't require credit checks. Cricket is also the latest business to come out with a Black Friday deal ahead of the critical Thanksgiving week shopping period. Cricket last week slashed prices on a number of handsets.

The $100 credit will come in the form of a Shopping Card that can be used for monthly payments, new devices and accessories. Customers must port in their phone number and sign up for a rate plan that is $40 a month or higher. Subscribers will have to make two payments and fill in a mail-in rebate form before they can receive the credit.

Through January 7, the LG Risio, Motorola Moto E, Nokia Lumia 635 and ZTE Overture 2 end up free thanks to a combination of rebates. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and LG G Stylo are $30 and $50, respectively.
